The Somebody That I Used To Know AI trend brings back one of the most recognizable music-video looks of the 2010s: two singers stand in front of a wall of flat geometric shapes in terracotta and beige, painted into it until only their faces stand out, one singing to the camera while the other sings back in profile. Upload a photo, add a friend or a second pet if you like, and this template paints you both into the wall for an 8-second duet. The AI wave started on 1 October 2026, when @bellvtrix.ai posted two AI cats, a fluffy ginger and a Siamese, singing the duet in front of the patchwork wall. It passed 3 million views and 550,000 likes. Other AI duets followed with all kinds of characters, tutorials for the template reached 130,000 views by 3 November, and at Halloween the look jumped offline: @tauruspopstar17 and a friend painted their bodies and clothes into geometric costumes and filmed the duet twice, at 976,000 and 953,000 views on 30 and 31 October. The template runs in two steps: an image model paints your subjects into the patchwork wall, then a video model plays 8 seconds of the duet with an original melody. The song title is only the name people search for: the clip uses no existing music. The trend videos on this page are credited to their creators; the poster image is AI-generated. ## What happens in the video 0-3 s: the first singer looks into the camera and sings softly. 3-6 s: the second singer turns in profile and sings back, leaning in. 6-8 s: both sing together, then freeze and blend into the wall. ## Does it use the real song? No. Soracai never adds copyrighted songs. The clip has an original melancholic duet melody; add the trending sound in TikTok or Instagram when you post if you want the original audio. ## Which photos to use One clear photo per singer: an adult who agreed to it or a pet, face toward the camera, good light. Leave the second photo empty and the template invents a partner. Never use photos of celebrities, strangers or children. ## How to use it 1. Open https://soracai.com/ai-somebody-that-i-used-to-know and upload the photos (First singer, Second singer (optional)). 2. Press Generate (140 credits, shown on the button before you run it). 3. Wait one to three minutes; the result is also saved to My Creations. 4. Download the MP4 without a watermark. Failed runs are refunded automatically. ## Examples - Example result: https://soracai.com/media/templates/ai-somebody-that-i-used-to-know/poster.avif ## This trend on Instagram & TikTok - @bellvtrix.ai (Trend video), TikTok, 2026-10-01: The singing cats that started the AI trend: 3.1M. 3,067,019 views, 551,347 likes. Upload one photo, add a second one for your duet partner if you want, and press Generate. You get an 8-second clip of you both painted into the patchwork wall, singing a duet. ### Is it free? Video templates use paid credits. New accounts get free credits for photo templates only. The exact cost is shown on the Generate button before you confirm. ### Can I use two pets? Yes. Upload a photo of each pet; they sit upright with their fur painted in the wall's patches, like the viral singing cats. ### Do I need a second photo? No. With one photo, the template invents a partner who sings back to you. ### Is this affiliated with Gotye, Kimbra, the song's label or the creators of the trend? No. Soracai is not affiliated with Gotye, Kimbra, their labels, Higgsfield, TikTok or any creator shown on this page. "Somebody That I Used To Know" is the trend's name, used because that is what people search for; the template uses no part of the song. ### Is there a watermark? No watermark is added to the video. ### Where is my photo stored? Uploads are stored in Firebase Storage (Google Cloud) under your account so the run can happen and the result appears in Creations. They are not public, and you can email support to request deletion. To run the effect, a copy is sent to our AI model provider (kie.ai); result files are kept for 14 days, so download what you want to keep. ## Related effects - [AI Concert Video Generator: See Yourself Singing on Stage](https://soracai.com/ai-concert-singing-video): You sing and rap into a hand mic on a huge night stage, a round LED wall glowing blue behind you, spotlights sweeping and the crowd's phones in the air: the AI concert trend with your own face. - [AI Smalltown Boy Trend (Run Away Turn Away)](https://soracai.com/ai-smalltown-boy-trend): Upload two photos and you and a friend take over the viral Smalltown Boy dance by the red fence: the dramatic "run away, turn away" screams into the camera, the 80s moves and the low-angle finale, on the original song. - [24K Magic AI Dance: The Cruise Deck Collar-Tug Dance From One Photo](https://soracai.com/ai-24k-magic-dance): From one photo, you grin, tug your collar and dance alone across a sunny cruise ship deck while your friend watches from the corridor: the viral 24K Magic AI dance trend. - [ABCDEFG I Need Money AI Trend](https://soracai.com/ai-abcdefg-i-need-money): Your pet (or you) runs through the letters A to G, stops dead, leans into the camera with a dead-serious face and rubs its fingers for money, the line the whole feed has stuck in its head. - [Mr and Mrs Stretchy AI Trend: You Two as a Clay Cartoon Couple](https://soracai.com/ai-mr-and-mrs-stretchy): Add a photo of each of you and become a lanky clay cartoon couple in a cozy kitchen: one of you spills the milk all over the counter, the other stretches down in shock.
